Fox has recently picked up JJ Abrams pilot for a new show by the name of Alcatraz, and now Sarah Jones from Sons of Anarchy has landed the lead role in the series. She will play opposite Lost’s Jorge Garcia, who was the first actor cast in the pilot, and news of other members is inevitably round the corner.

The show will be about the efforts of a team of FBI agents to track down a group of prisoners who escaped from the titular prison and unravel the mystery behind their disappearance thirty years prior. Jones will play Rebecca Madsen, “a smart, thoughtful and a little obsessive police officer”. She will act opposite Garcia, who plays an Alcatraz historian, assumably they will be part of the team responsible for tracking down the prisoners.

Abrams is well known for his various forays into TV, including the insanely successful and popular Lost, I think he is one of the great creative producers of his generation. I’m no huge fan of Lost but there was something about that show that did strike a chord with a vast audience. Alcatraz sounds like a fascinating show and I look forward to seeing this pilot.
