Slowly but surely, casting is really beginning to heat up on Godless, the all-new Western in the works as a Netflix limited series.
Headed up by Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank – the pair last collaborated on Out of Sight – we brought you the news two weeks ago that up-and-comer Jack O’Connell had closed a deal to star, and now Deadline is reporting that Jeff Daniels and Scoot McNairy of Batman V Superman fame have their eyes set on the Wild West.
No mention of which roles Daniels and McNairy are in contention for – we assume one or the other will step into the dusty shoes of Frank Griffin – but it’s understood that should both stars put pen to paper, they’ll be bound for a remote New Mexico mining town in the 1800s.
At the heart of that period yarn, though, is Griffin, a “menacing outlaw who is terrorizing the West as he hunts down Roy Goode (O’Connell), his son-like partner-turned-mortal enemy. While Roy hides at Alice Fletcher’s ranch, Frank’s chase leads him to the quiet town of La Belle — that is mysteriously made up of entirely women.”
Godless is eyeing a production start in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the coming weeks. Soderbergh and Frank are executive producing the limited period drama, alongside Casey Silver.
