It seems that Lana and Lilly Wachowski haven’t had a bona fide hit (as directors, at least) since The Matrix stormed into theatres back in 1999 and changed the genre forever. I guess they don’t exactly need to be too concerned with success at this point, since that aforementioned film will always be their most defining and iconic work, but it’s still a bit disappointing that they were never able to live up to the lofty expectations that The Matrix set.
Recently, the siblings tried their hand at a Netflix series in the form of Sense8, a bizarre, sci-fi show that certainly wasn’t for everyone, but did find itself a small, dedicated fanbase. While a second season was announced back in August, it’s been all quiet since then, leaving us to wonder just when the show would return.
Well, now we know, and it seems that ahead of season 2 we’ll be getting a Christmas special this month. Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything just yet, but Screen Crush noticed the above image on the streaming service before it was later pulled, leading us to believe that the show will indeed be back in time for a 2 hour holiday special. December 23 seems to be the day to mark in your diaries, and now that the cat’s out of the bag, we expect an official announcement to roll in shortly.
Of course, with Netflix not having revealed anything formally, plot details are non-existent and we’re not sure how the special will fit into the overall plot of the show or if it will be a direct lead in for season 2. Either way though, this is definitely exciting news for fans who’ve been waiting to see more of the series ever since its rookie outing premiered back in June 2015.
As soon as we learn further details about what Netflix has planned, we’ll be sure to let you know, but in the meantime, tell us, are you looking forward to seeing more of Sense8, or had you all but forgotten about it already?
