The Star Trek Picard Show Is Definitely Not Titled Picard

Star Trek is in rude health at the moment, with Discovery having impressed with its second season and multiple new projects in the pipeline. By far the most exciting is the 'return of Picard' show, which will see Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard for a series of mysterious new adventures. Right now the show is in pre-production, but we've recently learned a bit about Picard's mindset at the time of the show and who the show's supporting characters are. One thing we don't know is the show's official title.

Right now, the project’s in pre-production, but we’ve recently learned a bit about Picard’s mindset at the time of the show and who the supporting characters are. One thing we don’t know, though, is the official title. Back in February, however, we reported that Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green may have inadvertently leaked it when she said the following in an interview with Larry King:

Patrick Stewart is helming his own Star Trek. It’s going to be called ‘Picard’… He announced his come back recently and it was – goodness – the response was amazing. People are really happy including me.

While plain old Picard didn’t seem like a particularly exciting title, she seemed certain that this was what it was going to be called, so I took her at her word. But now it seems I may have spoken too soon. Hanelle Culpepper, who’s directing the first two episodes of the show, recently had a number of references to Star Trek: Picard pop up in her filmography. One fan asked her on Twitter if this was confirmation of the title and here’s how she responded:

“That’s not the official title; just a placeholder for me”

So, scratch that one. The next theory is that it’ll be called Star Trek: Destiny, which arises from a title registered by CBS in 2018. Fans believe that this was reserved for the Picard series and, while it’s also a pretty vague and bland title, it kinda fits with the idea of Jean-Luc Picard returning to his old role as a Star Trek Captain. In any case, with the show due to enter production fairly soon, we should hopefully get an official title before the summer.
