Star Trek’s Ethan Peck And Rebecca Romijn To Return In New Short Trek

Star Trek: Discovery season 2 ended with the crew of the Starfleet vessel disappearing through a wormhole into the far future, but fans aren't quite ready to leave the pre-TOS era of the Star Trek timeline behind. Anson Mount's Captain Pike, Ethan Peck's Spock and Rebecca Romijn's Number One all became firm favorites thanks to their roles on the CBS All Access show's sophomore run, with many campaigning for a spinoff.

We still haven’t had any word on that yet, but it looks like we’re getting more from at least two out of three of the trio. The evidence is pointing to Spock and Number One receiving their own Short Trek episode in the next season of the anthology mini-series. We know this thanks to an Instagram post from director Mark Pellington. Earlier this month, Pellington shared a shot of a clapperboard revealing that he was working on an episode titled “Chaos Theory.”

Just a few days later, he posted a pic of himself with Peck and Romijn, helpfully adding a caption that spelled it all out for us: “Romijn, Pellington, Peck. Trek shorts.” Also amongst his caption was #chabon, suggesting this installment is written by Michael Chabon, who’s part of the Star Trek: Picard writers room.

Considering the approach of previous Short Treks, “Chaos Theory” could take the form of a two-hander between Peck and Romijn. Obviously, more of Mount would’ve been welcome as well, but seeing these two characters interact some more should be a treat for fans regardless.

Hopefully this episode is just a taste of more returns to come for these characters as well. There’s been so much buzz around the idea of a spinoff following the adventures of the Enterprise under Pike, before Kirk took over, that CBS must’ve taken notice. Mount and Peck have both said they’d sign up for it, too, so it’s not out of the question.

The next Star Trek show out the door will likely be Picard later this year, but you can watch out for more Short Treks and Discovery after that.
