Just as Marvel’s using the upcoming Disney Plus as an opportunity to flesh out its cinematic universe even further, the Star Wars franchise is also set to bring an assortment of new stories to the small screen. As it stands, the only two to get the official go-ahead are Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and the currently untitled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series focusing on Cassian Andor.
In a new report from HN Entertainment, however, it’s alleged that Lucasfilm is currently considering a few further spinoffs focusing on various other characters from franchise lore. One project, for instance, is said to cover the younger days of Leia Organa, but when it comes to relative newcomers of the series, two names singled out as potential stars of their own vehicles are Captain Phasma and Rose Tico.
The article is careful to stress that we’re still in “very very early days” with these projects, meaning that even if the intel is correct, there’s no guarantee that either of these Sequel Trilogy regulars will ever make the jump to Disney Plus. All the same, Phasma and Rose seem like an interesting pair to base entire shows around.
In the case of Phasma, it was a common complaint towards The Last Jedi that the First Order Captain was killed off a little prematurely, and a solo series could serve as an ideal opportunity to give the villain a more developed arc. As for Rose, while the heroine proved to be a major character in Rian Johnson’s film, you can expect much of the focus in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX to be on characters previously introduced in The Force Awakens such as Rey, Kylo, and Finn, meaning that the Sequel Trilogy may leave Kelly Marie Tran’s character with plenty of untapped potential.
Regardless, it’ll likely be a long wait before any of the reported projects see the light of day, assuming they ever do, but in the meantime, we’ll find out what kind of future Star Wars: Episode IX sets up for the franchise when the film hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
