Steve Carell Won’t Be In The Office Finale

You can hold out for as long as you want, hanging onto the belief that the beloved Michael Scott will make an appearance on The Office series finale, but unfortunately it just won't happen. Though there is much speculation that we may catch a glimpse of everyone's favorite boss, Executive Producer Greg Daniels has again stated that Steve Carell will most definitely not be showing up in the episode to reprise his role as Michael Scott.

You can hold out for as long as you want, hanging onto the belief that the beloved Michael Scott will make an appearance on The Office series finale, but unfortunately it just won’t happen. Though there is much speculation that we may catch a glimpse of everyone’s favorite boss, Executive Producer Greg Daniels has again stated that Steve Carell will most definitely not be showing up in the episode to reprise his role as Michael Scott.

“I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the ‘Goodbye, Michael’ episode was his goodbye and he didn’t want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved,” he said via Reuters.

If you recall, Carell departed the show in 2011 after seven seasons. Ever since he left, the quality of the show has dipped and really, it’s never been the same since. Although, everyone knew that would be the case once Carell left, as the entire show really hinged on his character.

Now, just because Daniels is denying that Carell was involved, it doesn’t mean that we need to believe him. If Michael Scott is indeed set to make an appearance, that is obviously something that the producers would deny at every turn as they’d want to keep it a secret. That being said, at this stage, I would be very surprised to see Carell in the episode.

In other news regarding The Office, when asked what we can expect from the finale, Daniels wouldn’t say much but he did let slip the following:

“After attempting to beat that [British] ending in a number of different ways, we ended up doing something very similar,” Daniels revealed. The network (NBC) is being very creative about scraping some more time without us having to start the finale at a weird time that will cause half the audience to miss the first 10 minutes,” he said. “We are still hopeful of getting slightly more than one hour.”

Though it was once my favorite show, and still does hold a soft spot in my heart, The Office is nowhere close to what it used to be. Sure, it’s still entertaining and I still tune in every week, but back when Carell was on the show it was hands down the funniest thing on television. Nothing could come close. Now, it still has its moments but to be honest, it’s a good thing they’re ending it. The well has run dry on this one, unfortunately.

The Office will air its final episode on May 16th. Will you be tuning in?
