Last year saw the biggest crossover between the Arrowverse shows yet, as one week’s worth of Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow formed a movie-length alien invasion story. Fans loved it, of course, but if there was one major criticism it was that Supergirl wasn’t part of the core crossover. Thankfully, that will definitely be fixed this season.
Speaking with ComicBook.Com at San Diego Comic-Con, Supergirl showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller wouldn’t be drawn on the specific plot of the crossover, but they did promise that their show would kick off the event this year.
Rovner: “It’s a true four-part crossover that will start [with Supergirl] and be on this fall. And that’s all we can say about it. It’s going to be super.”
Queller: “It’s going to be awesome! Best crossover ever!”
If you remember, while Melissa Benoist showed up on Earth-1 for the three-part crossover, Supergirl only had a brief connection with it. Grant Gustin and Carlos Valdes turned up at the end of episode eight, “Medusa,” but that scene was repeated in the following episode of The Flash, meaning Supergirl wasn’t necessary viewing.
It’s good news, then, that this won’t be the case this time around. Whatever our heroes will be up against in this crossover – be it aliens again or some massively overpowered metahumans – the Girl of Steel’s show will be a major part of it.
The Supergirl cast were also on hand to joke about the crossover. Apparently, if they had their way, the Arrowverse crossovers would involve every CW show filming in Vancouver.
Mehcad Brooks: “We’re going to have a new series called Crossover. And it’s only going to be crossovers. Like Jane the Virgin [would become] Jane the Super Virgin.”
Melissa Benoist: “Just every show in Vancouver.”
While Brooks and Benoist wait for that to happen, we have season 3 of Supergirl to look forward to when it arrives on Monday, October 9th on The CW.
