The CW is all but set to stage a Kryptonian reunion with Supergirl season 2, now that Variety has confirmed the Man of Steel himself will partner up with Melissa Benoist’s title heroine later this year.

It’s a family reunion that has been teased many times by the creative talent involved in the DC Comics series, but executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that while Clark Kent will definitely pay a visit to his younger cousin in National City, for now it’s still unclear who will don the red cape as Superman. One thing’s for certain, though: it won’t be Henry Cavill.

“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl,” says executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. “Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

According to Kreisberg, Supes’ visit will only extend to two episodes of Supergirl season 2, after being teased all across the show’s inaugural season and, in particular, during the finale. Next up for The CW now will be locating an actor to portray The Last Son of Krypton.

Before finding a new home at The CW – joining fellow DC adaptations of Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow – it appeared as though Greg Berlanti’s live-action superhero series was in trouble. But with a family reunion now in the cards, fans will be keeping their peepers peeled in anticipation of Supergirl season 2 making its bow on The CW this fall. Expect the show’s sophomore outing to occupy the Monday slot at 8pm ET.
