Supernatural Likely To Be Renewed For 14th Season, Will Hit 300 Episode Milestone

Being someone who’s been a loyal fan of Supernatural since the pilot episode first aired all the way back in fall of 2005, I’m not ashamed to admit that I would have never predicted how long the horror series would endure. Even with creator Eric Kripke bowing out as showrunner after the fifth season, it’s somehow managed to keep us all on the edge of our seats, with season 13 set to resume next week.

As is the case with any long-running television show, one can’t help but wonder how much longer the party will last. Well, I guess we can put Sam and Dean Winchester in a club also enjoyed by The Simpsons because, much like that fan favorite animated series, there’s seemingly no end in sight when it comes to “saving people, hunting things, the family business.”

Speaking of which, CW President Mark Pedowitz told Deadline that while the network isn’t quite ready to announce its fall renewals, chances are good that Supernatural will come back for another round:

“That show will go on as long as it keeps going, the boys (stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) keep doing it and the ratings keep holding.”

Just facing facts here, it should be noted that Supernatural is currently The CW’s second highest rated show, right behind The Flash. So, unless it completely bottoms out upon its return and posts ratings comparable to what Valor and Dynasty have been turning in, we’d say Sam and Dean are looking pretty safe. And with a backdoor pilot to a spinoff and the returns of both Rowena and Bobby just around the corner, we’re guessing none of you will get bored anytime soon.

What’s also quite noteworthy is that a renewal for a fourteenth season guarantees the series will hit yet another milestone, something Pedowitz is well aware of, saying, “next year would be Supernatural‘s 300th episode, which is remarkable.” And when that time arrives, let’s hope the producers are able to top “Fan Fiction.”

Supernatural returns with new episodes on Thursday, January 18 on The CW.
