How excited you are for HBO’s upcoming series The Leftovers probably depends on how much you like Damon Lindelof. The Lost co-creator and showrunner has had a hand in several high profile genre projects since his pop culture phenomenon ended, deciding to take his talents to the big screen for films like Star Trek, Cowboys & Aliens, and Prometheus. The Leftovers marks his much-anticipated return to television though, and audiences are definitely curious about it.
The series debuts on June 15th and focuses on those in a suburban community who are left behind after the Rapture summons 2% of the world’s population to heaven. It’s an intriguing supernatural premise that offers opportunities for some great character-driven drama (and plenty of twists and turns), so Lindelof should feel right at home with the material. As an enormous fan of Lost and most of the writer’s work, I’m incredibly excited for this show and am glad to see him return to writing for the small screen.
The cast is pretty solid, too, with Justin Theroux in the lead, joined by Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston, Amy Brenneman, Ann Dowd and Michael Gaston.
