In the season 2 finale of The Flash, Teddy Sears’ Zoom was transformed into the Black Flash when his time travelling and Earth hopping antics finally caught up with him. In the comic books, the villain is responsible for escorting speedsters into the afterlife because Death is too slow to catch them, but will we see this character in The CW series?
Well, as of right now, Sears is busy working on 24: Legacy, but in a new interview, the actor expressed an interest in returning to The Flash somewhere down the line.
“It would be a lot of fun to drop back into that world. We’ll just have to see if the guys on the other end feel the same way. It sounds like they do, but it’s funny – now I belong to Fox, so there’s lots of people that would have to give a thumbs up. But I really hope so.”
So, scheduling issues could prove to be a problem then, and it doesn’t sound as if we should expect to see the Black Flash show up during the show’s current season. However, Sears went on to reiterate the character’s importance in the Scarlet Speedster’s world and confirmed that the show’s producers have talked to him about reprising the role of the transformed Zoom.
“Zoom has been transformed into Black Flash, who has quite a place in the mythology of The Flash. He’s like the grim reaper for speedsters. Andrew Kreisberg, the head writer and EP, has talked about their interest in having a Black Flash return at some point in the series.”
The Flash is currently delving into the Speed Force mythology by focusing on Savitar, the self proclaimed God of Speed. That’s something which could easily open the door to the Black Flash showing up, but considering his appearance when we last saw him, the network may not actually need Sears to reprise the role as he’s mostly a CG creation.
