He may be making headlines as one of the brand new faces of Superman (a distinction he and his contemporary David Corenswet have been wearing with markedly wholesome pride), but it’s no question that Jack Quaid‘s true claim to fame is through his role of Hughie Campbell, the reluctant youngblood who joins up with Billy Butcher’s eponymous band of vigilantes in The Boys.
The Prime Video superhero series, with its unabashed depravity, incisive satirical commentary, and politics about as subtle as a gunshot, is firmly anti-establishment in every sense of the word; an ethos that Quaid is all too happy to bring to the front lines in support of the SAG-AFTRA strike. And while he may be a member of The Boys on-screen, it looks like he’s a card-carrying member of The Girls when it comes to the picket line.
In a recent tweet, the Scream 5 star posted a photo of himself, along with The Boys co-stars Colby Minifie, Aya Cash, and Claudia Doumit, standing strong outside Amazon’s New York City location, loudly and proudly showing their support for SAG-AFTRA with pro-strike t-shirts, signs, and attitudes.
Indeed, as if Homelander wasn’t enough of a headache, now the ego of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers has entered the equation. And until it chooses justice and re-examines the industry’s streaming residual structure, artificial intelligence regulations, among other assurances that actors are frankly owed, we’re in for particularly dark times in the entertainment sector.
With the actors striking, one of the best things we can all do is to keep hitting play on those streaming shows and buying those movie tickets. According to one Neil Gaiman, they’re going to need a surplus of those trickling residuals now more than ever.
