In a world where Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and possibly Krysten Ritter are all returning to their roles from the Netflix Marvel shows, extending the courtesy to Mike Colter can’t be that unreasonable. That’s what fans of The Defenders are hoping after seeing Ritter and Colter’s most recent social media activity.
This might not be the first time Ritter and Colter share their platonic dates with the public, but something about the stars’ latest Instagram posts has MCU fans’ senses tingling. Maybe it’s Ritter’s nod to Colter’s Marvel character Luke Cage by calling him by his alias “Power Man,” or is it the signed magazine spread about The Defenders? The teasing is so obvious, it’s almost cruel.
Ritter’s involvement in Daredevil: Born Again, which will see the revival of Cox’s Matt Murdock and D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, has been rumored for a while, and at one point confirmed by an industry insider. According to this alleged scoop, Ritter could be making her big entrance in the MCU in the Cox-led show, reprising her role as Jessica Jones, and possibly coming head-to-head with the offspring of her biggest nemesis Kilgrave. Grain of salt, and all that.
Where there is Jessica, there is Luke. The two are one of Marvel Comics’ most famous couples, and although the jump to live-action didn’t exactly do their romantic history justice, there is still a chance the MCU could right that wrong. When recently questioned about a possible return to the superhero world, Colter wasn’t exactly enthusiastic, but he didn’t close the door completely either. “Never say never,” Colter commented, albeit adding that he’ll be happy for the actor that takes on the role if Marvel decides to recast him.
Daredevil: Born Again is very close to kicking off production, by which point more casting details will certainly surface. The show is slotted for a Spring 2024 release. Until then, a Defenders rewatch is just what the doctor ordered. The entire Marvel Netflix catalog is now available to stream on Disney Plus.
