HBO’s TV show adaptation of popular video game The Last of Us is gathering an incredible amount of attention from both gamers and the general public, all of whom cannot wait to see where the story goes next. Some creative liberties were taken while adapting The Last of Us to the small screen, and the majority of fans are reveling in it, but a certain event is causing havoc among the fandom.
While the show was originally supposed to air new episodes every Sunday, from Jan. 15 to March 12, the Super Bowl thwarted that plan. Thus, HBO opted to release episode five of The Last of Us two days earlier than viewers anticipated, on Feb. 10. At first glance this decision greatly pleased fans, who week after week have to handle the suffering of waiting seven days for new content. In their excitement, viewers jumped at the opportunity to watch episode five on Friday, but when Sunday hit, this wasn’t looking like such a blessing after all.
The Last of Us fans were suddenly confronted with the reality of having to wait even more time than usual for the next episode, and they’re not taking it all that well. Eager viewers decided to deal with this issue in classical netizen fashion — by complaining about it on social media. And, of course, using some memes to express their impatience.
This despair doesn’t seem to be only caused by impatience, though. After the devastating conclusion of episode five, viewers have realized they will be forced to sit with their sadness for longer. Obviously, no one likes that.
If all goes according to plan from this point forward, episode six of The Last of Us will premiere on Feb. 19. Until then, all other episodes remain available for streaming on HBO Max.
