Frank’s military past comes knocking in this new, high-res action shot for The Punisher.
Unveiled via Empire, the image below essentially confirms that Marvel and Netflix’s imminent standalone series, one that’s due to premiere by the end of 2017, will delve deep into Frank Castle and his time spent serving in the US Marine Corps. Those pre-Punisher days ultimately planted the seed for Frank’s violent alter-ego, which flares into life soon after his wife and children are murdered in cold blood.
Left nursing PTSD and a volatile, near-uncontrollable rage, it’s clear that The Punisher will flit between Frank’s haunting past and the present day to show how the former shapes the latter. Indeed, lead star Jon Bernthal believes Frank Castle’s vigilantism is the “only thing that silences the demons.” Temporarily, mind you.
Per Empire:
Building off the groundwork laid in Daredevil season 2, it’s no secret that the latest Netflix/Marvel collaboration is shaping up to be a violent affair, and here, Bernthal touches on the experience of operating within the dark, unforgiving world of Hell’s Kitchen.
It’s the only thing that silences the demons, temporarily. There’s going to be an attempt to move beyond the Punisher, but that’s something he can’t shake. There’s part of me that’s hungry to get back into the darkness, that’s excited to see it fall apart.
In case you missed it, The Punisher Netflix account recently Tweeted out all 13 episode titles…in Morse Code. Granted, it didn’t take long before fans deciphered the messages, confirming those monikers to be: “3 AM,” “Two Dead Men”, “Kandahar”, “Resupply”, “Gunner”, “The Judas Goat”, “Crosshairs”, “Cold Steel”, “Front Toward Enemy”, “Virtue of the Vicious”, “Danger Close”, “Home”, and “Memento Mori”.
All 13 episodes of The Punisher will pummel their way onto Netflix before the year’s end. They’ll cap off a fairly impressive year for the online streamer, too, after its Marvel lineup produced the introductory season of Iron Fist along with The Defenders. Looking forward to 2018, and we understand new helpings of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage are also cramming up the pipeline.
