Now that The Defenders have averted catastrophe in New York City – at the expense of Midland Circle, we might add – it’s almost time to welcome The Punisher into the limelight.
Jon Bernthal’s one-man reign of terror was first introduced to Marvel’s small-screen universe during the second season of Daredevil, where he forged an unlikely friendship with Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). By the looks of things, that bond will continue to flourish in The Punisher, as Netflix has today unveiled a horde of new action shots designed to trace Frank Castle’s evolution from hardened US Marine to fearless vigilante.
Also included in the gallery below is an up-close look at David Lieberman’s Micro, a computer hacker who purportedly plays a sizeable role in Netflix’s latest standalone series. A release date continues to elude The Punisher, though it’s understood Marvel and Netflix may decide to drop all 13 episodes without much of a lead-up.
Chances are this is one of, if not the final media dump before The Punisher‘s long-anticipated premiere, though we suspect Marvel will bring some new footage to New York Comic Con in three weeks’ time. Until then, you can pour over the show’s updated synopsis for additional story clues.
In Marvel’s The Punisher, after exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone. The cast also includes Daredevil alum Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Karen Page, along with Ben Barnes (Westworld) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls).
Marvel and Netflix will no doubt have a presence at NYCC, and there have been rumblings that the Powers That Be will buck tradition and announce that all 13 episodes of The Punisher are available to stream day and date. Assuming that is indeed the case, subscribers can look forward to Frank Castle’s long-brewing solo series to emerge from the shadows early next month.
