“Fine: Friend-ter-vention.”
Anyone who was disappointed by Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) thirteenth hour decision that Stefan (Paul Wesley) was the “one” for her on the season three finale of The Vampire Diaries will be cheering at some point during this episode. Unfortunately, by the end you may also have some doubts that we are really getting the Delena relationship moment that we’ve been waiting for. That moment where vampire Elena has finally decided to give Damon (Ian Somerhalder) a real chance, all of her own free will.
Along with all the added problems associated with Elena’s current life transition, finally admitting to Stefan her feelings for Damon, has only added to the mix. Now she will have to deal with a slightly crazed version of her former flame since Stefan doesn’t take the break-up particularly well. Who would blame him. The whole losing the love of your life to your brother after your let her die and turn into a vampire can’t be easy for anyone.
Stefan doesn’t quite go over the rails – yet – but he’s not exactly stable. He is convinced that Elena’s feelings for Damon are a direct of her new vampire nature, which makes him even more eager to find the cure. Ripper Stefan may not be back yet, but it’s only a matter of time before a new kind of bad hits him. To speed up the process he makes a decision that may not have been completely thought out. And, it doesn’t look like bringing Jeremy(Steven R. McQueen) even further into the mess created by his new hunter mark will be good for anyone. Worse yet, Stefan’s save Elena plan is already off to a bad start. In fact, it completely backfires on him.
In good news, at least Jeremy finally appears to be able to fight his own battles with his new vampire hunter strength. However, Jeremy is only holding on by a thread in the mental arena these days – dreams of impaling your sister might do that to you. Between Elena stabbing him in the neck during her hallucinations and the effects the hunter mark is starting to have since he beheaded the hybrid, dark days are on the horizon for this young hero. The only thing keeping him relatively sane is Matt (Zach Roerig). Matt seems to be a saving grace for more than one of our favorite Mystic Falls residents lately.
