Deadline brings the news that FX has given the green light to the adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, which was first teased last year. Olyphant will also executive produce alongside the show’s creator Graham Yost, in addition to writers Dave Andron and Michael Dinner, with the latter directing.

Justified won widespread acclaim during its original six-season run, landing two Primetime Emmy wins from eight nominations in total, with none of the seasons dropping below a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, even if ratings were never as consistently strong as the quality of the television on offer.

City Primeval picks up eight years after the end of Justified, with Givens now back in Miami and trying to maintain a work/life balance as the father of a 14 year-old daughter. However, he ends up heading to Detroit after encountering a violent criminal known as The Oklahoma Wildman, presumably leaving a trail of bodies and dry one-liners in his wake as he’s wont to do.

What’s old is almost always new again in Hollywood, but fans will nonetheless be celebrating wildly now that Olyphant has committed to getting back in the saddle as one of the small screen’s most memorable modern cowboys.
