The newly announced DC Universe streaming service promises fans new shows, classic movies, beloved comics and apparently, some F-bombs!
That’s right, according to a new rumor, DC may be aiming for a more mature/adult audience here and will be lathering Titans, the flagship show for the service, with expletives. Among other things, the series is said to include “multiple f-bombs and s-bombs along with other swear-words, bone snaps, people being shot, burned, and mangled.” Not only that, but overall, it’ll be a “departure from the more joyful tone that many associate with the group.”
So essentially, it’ll be an external manifestation of what I feel when I’m watching Teen Titans Go!
Of course, this is just a rumor for now, but it does seem to line up with the first official photo of Robin (played by Brenton Thwaites) in full costume from the series. Released earlier this week, he appeared to be battered, bruised and bloodied, with a black and barren palate that would make Zack Snyder say “yeesh.”
Considering that Titans seems to be a key component of the service’s opening salvo, its apparent tone may be a reflection of the DC Universe’s other offerings, too. I mean, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing and Harley Quinn in their purest iterations aren’t the most child-friendly properties that DC has in their arsenal and a more mature tone is almost necessary for an appropriate interpretation of their stories.

There’s an embarrassment of riches right now when it comes to superhero media but the one thing that the genre’s relatively lacking is gritty, grounded and adult shows. The engineers of the DC Universe have noticed this void and may be aiming to carve a niche for themselves in this regard, which is sure to drum-up excitement ahead of launch.
