Get acquainted with Army Ranger Eric Carter (Straight Outta Compton‘s Corey Hawkins) in two new promos for 24: Legacy, Fox’s upcoming spinoff series that takes the legacy of CTU agent Jack Bauer and spins it out in a whole new direction.
Kiefer Sutherland’s hardboiled agent won’t be making an appearance in the 2017 series, sadly, but longtime fans of all things 24 can at least look forward to the return of Tony Almeida. Rumor has it that Mary Lynn Rajskub will also crop up in Legacy, but treat that speculative nugget as just that for now.
[zergpaid]Truth be told, Jack Bauer leaves some mighty big shoes to fill, but more than anything else, these new teasers for 24: Legacy prove that Fox is very much tapping into the show’s greatest tendencies – the razor-sharp editing, the split-screen narrative, the seemingly never-ending race against the clock – to establish its bold new offshoot.
In terms of story, after serving on the front lines in Yemen, Hawkins’ Eric Carter touches down on home turf only to discover that a new terrorist threat is beginning to emerge, and it’s up to him, Rebecca Ingram (Homeland‘s Miranda Otto) and senator John Donovan (Jimmy Smits) to safeguard the United States against a full-blown attack. It’s an expansion of the universe first built around Jack Bauer, but can Legacy step out of Sutherland’s shadow to craft its own unique story? We’ll find out early next year.
24: Legacy will finally make its debut soon after Super Bowl 51 on February 5. Will you be tuning in?
