On the last episode of The Vampire Diaries, we went on a little tour of Mystic Falls circa 1912 to give us some perspective on Mystic Falls 2012. Let’s see if history will repeat itself in this episode or if our favorite do gooders will be able to save the day.
Alaric (Matt Davis) is seeing the inside of a tube. Dr. Fell (Torrey DeVitto) has ordered a CAT scan to try to find out what’s happening to him. Ok, I’ll admit it – maybe I was too quick to judge the doctor, but she didn’t to help matters by keeping all this info to herself. Alaric may have found himself a good woman in the doctor.
Encounters are still uncomfortable between Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). It’s beginning to become exhausting watching there interactions. With no hope of reconciliation on the forecast they remain at irreconcilable odds.
Things aren’t looking much better on the farmstead. Caroline (Candice Accola) shows up with blood bags for the newly turned Bennett, but Bonnie (Kat Graham) doesn’t think she’s handling the transition well.
The restoration of Wickery Bridge might be the only thing still on course. Rebekah (Claire Holt) is still snooping around looking for answers to the location of the Oak tree. Sage (Cassidy Freeman) makes an appearance looking for her one true love, Finn (Casper Zafer), who hasn’t been heard from since the debacle with the ritual.
Stefan (Paul Wesley) is still playing the wounded badger. He doesn’t think he’s good enough for Elena, blah blah blah. Same excuses, different afternoon. Instead of dealing with his emotions in a healthy way, he decides to gorge of blood bags in the basement.
Rebakah shows up to party with Sage and Damon. What an odd combination of guests, but I guess it’s a slow night in Mystic Falls. Watching the scene unfold as Damon seduces Rebekah would be much more tragic if we didn’t already know that it is all part of a plan to figure out what she’s been after. In an offbeat way, they sorta make an interesting couple – if Caroline and Klaus can look like a possibility, why not these two scorned love birds?
Bonnie might be able to help Alaric, but she’s barely ready to face Elena. Can a spell really reverse the damage? The last wearer of the ring and ended up committing suicide in an insane asylum. Just saying.
Sage performs some supernatural psychic trick and pulls all the info Damon needs in living color out of Rebekah’s subconscious. She mentally shares it with him and he goes to work locating the Oak tree for himself. Too bad Sage double crosses him and burns what’s left of the tree down, or so she thinks.
Elena has a surprise waiting for her when she gets to Alaric’s loft – Stefan. He has some new information of his own and she’s not going to like it. Turns out that even after Samantha removed her ring she still suffered from violent behavior. She’s probably thinking twice about leaving Meredith at the house with Alaric right about now is my guess. And no time to soon because he’s not looking like himself.
It doesn’t take long for his wild eyes to take control of the scene. Alaric goes after Meredith and she finds herself locked in a bathroom, injured. While all this excitement is going on, Elena and Stefan find some incriminating material locked in a drawer. They get back just in time to put the sleeper move on Alaric and save Meredith with, you guessed it, vampire blood.
Will the element of surprise help the Mystic Falls gang take out the Originals? Does this mean we won’t get a Klaus/Caroline romance after all? When will Stefan get over himself and get on with the making up with Elena? So many questions and only a handful of episodes left this season. Hang on to your hat kids!
