After the uh-oh in last week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries, where Alaric’s evil vampire hating alter ego hid the stake that Stefan promised he’d deliver to Klaus in exchange for Damon’s life, it’s hard to tell exactly where this week’s episode will take our favorite Mystic Falls residents.
Alaric (Matt Davis) agrees to a voluntary confinement in the Salvatore basement while Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) head across the country to check on Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen). All events occurring with Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) approval.
Mystic Falls High is throwing another one of its decade dances and it’s sure to be eventful as always. Rebekah (Claire Holt) challenges Caroline (Candice Accola) as leader of the dance committee and has the decade in question changed from the 70’s to the 20’s. I have to admit, the 20’s do seem to offer more fabulous costume choices. Matt (Zach Roerig) takes a risk and backs Rebekah. Or so she thinks.
Hopefully alcohol will be the key to unleashing the knowledge Alaric has hidden literally inside of his head. Stefan comes clean about the reason he sent Elena off with his brother instead of using the road trip as an excuse for some alone time. Let’s hope Elena makes the best of the situation.
In order to find out which Original gets a lucky pass, they’ll need Jeremy’s gift of talking with the dead. As of now, what they know of the Salvator’s vampire “family” line goes from them, to Katherine, to Rose. If Jeremy can talk to Rose, they might be able to narrow things down. There’s only one problem – Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic).
Tyler’s (Micheal Trevino) back! And it doesn’t take long for things to get hot and heavy with Caroline, who looks like she’s missed him just as much.
Bad news. Rose wasn’t cyered directly by an Original. Someone names “Scary Mary” is the great grandmother of this family tree.
It turns into quite the pity party in Alaric’s cell when Klaus (Joseph Morgan) joins in the fun. He, however, has less patience than Stefan and snaps Alaric’s neck to facilitate the alter ego making an appearance.
A surprise and unwelcome visit from mamma Original catches Rebekah off-guard. She came back to reveal that since the Bennett line was severed, so was the the power keeping her alive. And Esther bites the dust!
Back in Denver, Elena gives in to her feelings and we finally get a passionate Damon/Elena scene. It’s about time! The porch kiss was nice, but watching them lose themselves in each other and not hold back – priceless. What can be even more priceless? Jeremy catching them mid-make out.
Great grandmother lives in a scary house in Kansas. The nickname doesn’t seem to match her looks but it’s hard to tell much more since Kol killed her. Now there may be no way to tell which Original our favorite vampires descended from.
When Elena pulls away from Damon’s touch he realizes what the point of this trip is. He’s smart enough to not want any part in it. Elena has a tough decision to make.
She’s not the only one with a choice in her future. With Tyler back in town and Klaus still interested in Caroline, She has walked right into a love triangle. Like Elena, the choice may not be as easy as it seems. The person who’s good for you might not be the one that’s best for you.
The cave that is spelled to keep all vampires out is the perfect place to hide a vampire killing weapon. Alariac’s alter ego thought so too. Rebekah takes him there to retrieve it – alone. I’m not sure how well that was thought out. Except it’s not Rebekah. It appears that the Original witch has fooled everyone and take residence in Rebekah’s body. Old plans die hard.
Tricky, Tricky lady – this round goes to mom. Look out kids because she means business!
Now that evil Alaric has an ally how will the Originals fair in this game of cat and mouse? Is Elena any closer to accepting her feelings for Damon or will she run back to Stefan?
