Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries won’t air until October, but The CW is already giving fans a preview.

This past weekend at Comic-Con, CW executives premiered the first taste of what we can expect from the upcoming season. The hit teen drama gave us quite an unexpected ending with Elena (Nina Dobrev) being turned into a vampire last year.

If you remember from season 2, Elena shared a heartfelt moment with Stefan (Paul Wesley) where she revealed that she never had any intention of going the vampire route. This revelation came on the eve of the Klaus’ ritual sacrifice that the entire season had built up to.

After losing Jenna (Sara Canning) and living in a constant state of fear for most of season 3 – the season of the originals – I wonder if her thoughts have wavered at all on the whole vampire/human debate.  I guess it no longer matters now that her choice has converted to “feed or die.”

The two and a half minute clip showcases the build up to this point and although season 4 of The Vampire Diaries is still in pre-production down in Atlanta, there is clearly a new scene shot for this promo. Near the end of it, we find ourselves in the middle of an argument between the Salvatore brothers regarding Elena – as per usual.

I’m sure the whole Elena choosing Stefan (finally) and Stefan then letting her die isn’t helping to mend their brotherly bond either.

Check out the promo clip for yourself and let us know what you think:

The Vampire Diaries returns to The CW on Thursday, October 11th. Will you be tuned in?
