Say what you will about taking creative divergences from the source material, but James Gunn knows a thing or two about bringing characters to life in his own way; his Guardians of the Galaxy team pop like few Marvel Cinematic Universe characters can, and Peacemaker, a DC villain that hardly any non-hardcore comics fan recognized pre-Gunn, has now become a fan favorite thanks to the gaffer’s series of the same name.
However, even Peacemaker pales in comparison to Gunn’s greatest comic book reimagining, and that’s none other than Vigilante, the title character’s number one fan, most reliable confidant, and one of the uncontested highlights of Peacemaker thanks to his sociopathic tendencies combined with a personality that makes you want to put him in your pocket.
Peacemaker, of course, is confined to the old continuity (at the moment, at least), and with Gunn’s hands tied up in crafting the new DC Universe, the second season of the show seems to have taken somewhat of a backseat for the moment. That, in turn, seemed to mean that Vigilante also wound up on the back burner by extension, and we can only go so long without seeing Freddie Stroma‘s murder-happy teddy bear.
Luckily, it doesn’t sound like Vigilante is confined to the walls of Peacemaker anymore; Gunn, having made the bold decision to make a Threads account, seemingly marked the occasion by letting us all know that the character would probably show up before the second season of his debut show.
Naturally, the first place that many a fan’s mind went was Waller, one of Gunn’s incoming DCU shows and a spin-off of Peacemaker.
If this likely hunch is correct, we could be seeing Vigilante as early as next year; the knowledge that he’d be making a comeback at all was nothing short of a blessing, but knowing he’s closer than we may have originally thought should make any Peacemaker enthusiast grin from ear to ear.
