Pablo Escobar is a drug kingpin who needs no introduction. At the peak of his historic reign at the tip-top of a Colombian empire, Escobar’s cartel supplied upwards of 80 percent of all cocaine that made it across the border and into the States, and his dramatic rise has proved rich material for countless features and insightful documentaries.
Netflix opted for a slightly different route into Escobar’s criminal empire with Narcos, a gripping, serialized take on the famed kingpins of the ’80s and the brave law enforcers who locked horns with them in the criminal underworld.
It resulted in electrifying entertainment, and it’s little wonder why Netflix has issued the go-ahead for a second season. Set for a premiere on September 2, the online giant has now rolled out our first-look trailer (via Independent), accompanied by a handful of moody images that you can feast your eyes on below.
Heralding the return of Wagner Moura as drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, Narcos season 2 also stars Boyd Holbrook as DEA agent Steve Murphy and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as DEA agent Javier Peña.
Narcos will continue to cast light on the criminal underworld of the ’80s when Netflix’s narcotics thriller returns with a 10-episode run on September 2.
Narcos chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the infamous drug kingpins of the late 1980s and the corroborative efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. Its gritty storytelling details the many, often-conflicting forces – legal, political, police, military and civilian – that clash in the effort to control cocaine, one of the world’s most valuable commodities.
