The Walking Dead was picked up for a third season this morning by AMC after its record-breaking season premiere, which brought in 7.3 million viewers and set a cable premiere record for the 18-49 demographic.

The Walking Dead is based on a comic book series by Robert Kirkman, which follows a group of people struggling to survive the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. The television adaptation has been praised for maintaining consistent character focus, as opposed to just lots and lots of zombies.

Season two of The Walking Dead is going strong after the premiere, after a first season that brought in beyond-expectations numbers of viewers, from college students to their moms. I mean that quite literally, because I watched the season with my friends in college, only to return home to my parents having finished the season before me.

I haven’t read the comic book series, so the only thing that makes me wonder about this decision is that I don’t know how long the story could go on without getting repetitive or frustrating. As in, “It’s a zombie apocalypse. We get it.”

Are you a Walking Dead fan? What do you think about a third season?
