The second full-length trailer for Game of Thrones season 7 has been summoned online today and in it, you’ll get a sneak peek at the war to end all wars.
Daenerys Targaryen and her colossal army – an army comprised of Unsullied soldiers, a Dothraki war tribe, and three dragons so big they’re now being compared to 747s – have touched down on Westeros seeking the Iron Throne, while up in the North, Jon Snow and the remnants of the Night’s Watch brace for the inevitable winter. And we’re not talking about a sudden drop in temperature; rather the oncoming Night King and his undead army of Wights.
It’s a threat that places the Northern Kingdoms on red alert, but will Kit Harington’s fan-favorite be able to rally the troops in time? Leaked set photos have already confirmed that Jon Snow (or should that be Jaehaerys Targaryen?) and Daenerys will indeed cross paths during the seventh season of Game of Thrones, which is enough to leave ardent fans rooted to the edge of their seats.
As for today’s all-new trailer, HBO has carefully chosen to unveil said promo to coincide with the summer solstice – in the Northern Hemisphere, at least – and the official tagline reads as so: “It may be the first day of summer, but #WinterisHere on July 16th.” We’re already counting down the days.
Comprised of seven episodes in total, the penultimate season of Games of Thrones debuts Sunday, July 16th. HBO’s fantasy flagship will still continue beyond the premiere of the eighth and final season in 2018 (or perhaps 2019?) though, given that the network is now in possession of multiple pitches for prequel series – pitches drafted by the likes of Max Borenstein (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Brian Helgeland, George R.R. Martin, and Carly Wray.
