The vision is changing for the second season of Lucasfilm and Disney Plus’ animated anthology series, Star Wars: Visions. While season one was entirely animated by different Japanese anime studios, including Trigger and Studio Colorido, the second installment of the show is going global. Fans can expect the release of season two on Star Wars Day, May 4, 2023.
Lucasfilm has commissioned nine different animation production companies around the world to bring the episodes in season two to life. From Spain, El Guiri studios are behind an episode called “Sith,” while Cartoon Saloon from Ireland made “Screecher’s Reach”. Chile’s Punkrobot worked on “In the Stars,” Aardman Animations in the U.K. created “I Am Your Mother,” and South Korea’s Studio Mir made “Journey to the Dark Head.” Season two also counts with episodes by France’s Studio La Cachette, South Africa’s Triggerfish, India’s 88 Pictures, and Japan’s D’art Shtajio in collaboration with Lucasfilm. Their episodes are titled “The Spy Dancer,” “Aau’s Song,” “The Bandits of Golak,” and “The Pit,” respectively.
Like season one, each episode will tell a different story based on the world of Star Wars, featuring its own unique animation style. The trailer for Star Wars: Visions‘ second season was unveiled at London’s Star Wars Celebration convention that took place throughout the weekend of 7-10 April.
Season one of Star Wars: Visions was a critical success, registering an impressive 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and being hailed by critics as one of the best productions to come out of the Disney Plus era of the Star Wars franchise.
