HBO’s newest drama series, The Idol has landed on Max. This show faced backlash during production, with reports of staff being exposed to “disturbing sexual content” and the backlash that Sam Levinson faced. Regardless, the show managed to earn a standing ovation at this year’s Cannes film festival, but then again – so did just about every other production. What’s most telling is its poor critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Who does BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim play on The Idol?

After starring in multiple music videos for BLACKPINK and appearing in Grimes‘ ‘Shinigami Eyes,’ Jennie has now debuted in a TV series. When it was first reported that Jennie will star in this HBO drama series, fans assumed that it would be some sort of cameo or background character. However, according to the K-pop star’s IMDB page, it seems she’s going to appear in more than one episode.

The name of Jennie’s character in the HBO series is Dyanne, and she appears during the first episode of The Idol, titled ‘Pop Tarts & Rat Tails.’ During her time in the first episode, she accompanies Jocelyn to a nightclub, where she will eventually meet Tedros. The two were seen having fun and dancing.

Based on the first episode, Jennie’s character is a friend of Jocelyn’s, and her stand-in dancer for rehearsals. It will be interesting how that friendship progresses or last as each new episode is released, or how big her part will end up being overall, for that matter. The Idol airs on HBO every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET and will be available to stream on Max.
