Ted Lasso has a lot of characters. The show’s die-hard supporters and long-time detractors could both tell you that. So, as a newcomer to Ted Lasso, or someone trying to play catch up before the season 3 finale (quite possibly the end of the show), it can be easy to lose track of who’s who, and which characters play crucial roles within the larger framework of the show.
One of these characters is Bex (Keeley Hazell). One name, one mysterious presence. She’s been a part of Ted Lasso since the beginning, but she remains peripherally involved with the storyline and the main characters. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though… Here’s an overview of who Bex is and where she may end up by the finale.
Bex was introduced in the season 1 episode “For the Children”, where it was revealed that she was dating Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head), the former owner of AFC Richmond and the former husband of the current owner, Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham). Bex’s status as a glamorous younger woman got under Rebecca’s skin from the start, but the resentment got even worse when it was revealed that Bex’s real name is also Rebecca, and that the press started referring to her as “New Rebecca.” This in turn, led them to call Rupert’s ex “Old Rebecca.” Ouch.
Rebecca becomes even more frustrated when she discovers that Bex is pregnant with Rupert’s child. Rebecca felt short-changed, as Rupert said he didn’t want children when they were together, which led to her giving up on her dreams of starting a family. When she confronts him about this inconsistently, Rupert merely explains that he didn’t want to have children with her, which further exacerbates the tension between them.
Are Bex and Rebecca friends on Ted Lasso?
Eventually, things get smoothed over, and Rebecca wishes both Bex and Rupert the best. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows for the “New Rebecca”, though. While Bex and Rupert get married, the season 3 episode “Big Week” starts to reveal that things are not going well between them.
Following the Richmond vs. West Ham match at the latter’s home ground, Rebecca spots Rupert getting up to his old ways and kissing his assistant – the same exact behavior that led to the dissolution of his first marriage. Rebecca takes the information in stride, and rather than rub it in Bex’s face, she’s empathetic towards her and has a cordial exchange with her ex-husband’s new wife. She does tell quietly demand that Rupert stops messing around, though. We hope that Bex gets the happy ending she deserves, even if it means divorce.
Keeley Hazell, the actress who plays Bex, first met Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis when they appeared in Horrible Bosses 2 (2014). They reconnected several years later, and were photographed kissing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, shortly after Sudeikis separated from his fiancé, Olivia Wilde.
The two dated from Nov. 2021 until May 2022, when Page Six reported that their conflicting schedules proved too difficult to reconcile. The outlet claimed that Hazell and Sudeikis have remained friendly after the fact, which makes sense given that they continued to work on the show together.
