Fan-favorite The Witcher character Yennefer of Vengerberg plays a huge role in the show as Geralt of Rivia’s one true love and right arm and as a mother figure to Ciri. She’s an incredibly intelligent, and headstrong sorceress, who can sometimes be blinded by her quest for power but holds a painful past inside.
Whether in the books, video games, or the Netflix series, Yennefer often steals the spotlight in all the best ways. Her story is compelling and her personality is captivating. Although she is famously beautiful, Yennefer only achieved her looks by magic and doesn’t let them define her one way or the other.
Who is the actress that portrays Yennefer of Vengerberg in ‘The Witcher’?
Yennefer is played by British actress Anya Chalotra. The Wolverhampton native got her start in theater and hasn’t worked in television much beyond The Witcher. She’s voiced main roles in Sherwood and Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, and starred in the 2018 British miniseries Wanderlust.
Chalotra is half-Indian on her father’s side and visited the country with him for the first time in 2019. She told Vogue India that she grew up on Bollywood films and would perform songs from her favorite movies to her family.
Speaking to Variety about what she loves the most about playing Yennefer, Chalotra said she loves the costumes and how amazing wearing them makes her feel. The actress also mentioned how much the character has taught her, especially regarding Yennefer’s physical transformation and how she realizes it’s not her appearance but the relationships she makes that define her power.
The first two seasons and the first volume of season three of The Witcher are available to stream now on Netflix.
