Just recently, a television series based on the Harry Potter books was announced. It will play it safe and reimagine the novels with each one covering approximately one season’s worth of episodes, does involve author J.K. Rowling in an executive producer capacity, and while it will certainly be controversial, some are wondering if anyone has been cast in the money-making series.
Right now, the answer appears to be no. This month, Deadline Hollywood reported the project has not even found a showrunner yet. HBO and Max Content Chairman and CEO Casey Bloys told the outlet they have been playing things very close to the vest, and for the moment, there is an internal process before they will end up going out to talk to others in the entertainment industry.
As well, though rumors and fake headlines have abounded concerning performers like the 90-year-old Sir Michael Caine joining the cast, others who loved the initial films and book series are hoping some of the previous major entertainers return. On Twitter, there is speculation Daniel Radcliffe could come back in some capacity if offered enough money — though fans hope he returns in a new role similar to how video game voice actors from The Last of Us got to shine on the show.
It is worth noting Radcliffe has said he is not interested in coming back to the property which kickstarted his career right now, while Rupert Grint has said he would if the timing is right — and there have only been rumors about Emma Watson returning so long as Rowling is not involved. Others like Draco Malfoy star Tom Felton are open to the idea, and, ultimately, what will end up happening remains to be seen. It could take years before the show ever gets to air; reports from Variety have claimed it will feature an entirely new cast, and a lot can change as something is produced, as anyone familiar with production and reshoots is aware of.

The reboot is definitely a product of commercial concerns more so than creative ones, and for some Rowling critics, they see it as an attempt for her to excise those in the franchise who have previously spoken out against her views like Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint, and many agree with this notion. She has said the show will be a “faithful” turn of her stories, so we should all buckle up and brace for what is going to come.
