Pegged for premiere in the early stages of 2016, San Diego Comic-Con has brought forth an evocative new teaser poster for American Gods, the upcoming drama series adapted from Neil Gaiman’s award-winning books of the same name.

Hatched by Bryan Fuller and Michel Green, American Gods will make its bow with a 10-episode run on Starz, heralding a truly star-studded lineup of Hollywood talent that recently carved out space for actor-cum-comedian Dane Cook.

He’ll play Robbie, a close ally to Shadow Moon as they attempt to navigate the seemingly all-consuming war between gods old and new. Ricky Whittle is the actor attached to Moon, flanked by X-Files stalwart Gillian Anderson, Emily Browning, Yetide Badaki, Cloris Leachman, Ian McShane, Pablo Schreiber, Peter Stormare, Crispin Glover and Orlando Jones.

“American Gods has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.”

Starz has aligned American Gods for premiere in early 2017.
