Now that Avengers: Endgame has wrapped up over a decade’s worth of Marvel Studio films, fans are wondering where the MCU can possibly go from here? Considering Tony and Steve’s stories have seemingly come to an end, folks are expecting Marvel to introduce a new line-up of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes centered around Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange and Black Panther. But what if that’s not the sole Avengers team running around the MCU?
A source close to We Got This Covered has revealed that the studio is looking into adapting the Young Avengers into a Disney Plus show. For those unfamiliar, the Young Avengers aren’t a Muppets Babies-take on Tony Stark or Bruce Banner, but actual teenaged heroes with their own set of powers and technology. First introduced into Marvel Comics in 2005, the youthful supergroup first formed under the Vision’s direction following the “Avengers Disassembled” storyline to bring Kang the Conqueror to justice.
Slowly but surely, the MCU seems to have set up every member of the Young Avengers’ signature line-up, and here’s how:
- Hulkling, despite the name, is actually a shape-shifting alien, the son of Kree hero Mar-Vell, who was portrayed by Annette Bening in this year’s Captain Marvel film.
- Stature’s size-shifting alter ego is Cassie Lang, the daughter of Ant-Man Scott Lang. Thanks to Endgame’s five-year time jump, Cassie is now a young teenager, and a perfect jumping off point into the world of the Young Avengers.
- Wiccan and Speed are twin brothers who are magically created sons of Scarlet Witch. We’ve heard that the WandaVision show will dive into Wanda’s reality warping powers to revive Vision (also important to the formation of the Young Avengers) and create a young family of their own.
- Kate Bishop is receiving her own Disney Plus show, Hawkeye, alongside Clint Barton. In the comics, Bishop forces her way into the group after saving them from a botched mission, which means the Hawkeye series could serve as an introduction to the team before they receive their own vehicle.
- Iron Lad is a younger version of Kang the Conqueror, who travels through time to stop his older self from world domination. Endgame firmly established time travel in the MCU, and also featured a cameo from tech-wiz Harley Keener at Tony’s Funeral. Could this Disney’s own take on the Iron Lad character?
- Lastly, we have Patriot, the grandson of WWII super-soldier Isaiah Bradley. Now that the mantle of Captain America has been passed on, could it eventually find its way to the younger Eli Bradley?
It seems like Phase Four of the MCU could be the biggest one yet. The release of Spider-Man: Far From Home is just a few short weeks away, and Disney Plus is looking into adapt all sorts of Marvel properties into streaming series, so who knows what might come next?
