As one of the most influential and innovative artists in electronic dance music, Gareth Emery really needs no introduction. He rose to fame in the early 2000s and has continued on with an accomplished and impressive career ever since. Giving us timeless tracks like Sanctuary and Concrete Angel, among many others, headlining massive festivals around the world and producing one of the most enjoyable podcasts on the web, Emery is truly in a league of his own.
Last weekend during Montreal’s Produktworld 2014, the DJ touched down at New City Gas for what was truly an incredible show. Running through songs new and old, including a whole bunch of material from his recently released album Drive, Emery delivered a set that those who were in attendance won’t soon forget.
After the show, I had the honor of sitting down with Gareth for an exclusive interview. Despite it being nearly 3:30 in the morning, and despite the fact that he had to jet over to the west coast for a show in LA later in the day, Emery was more than happy to take some time to discuss a whole variety of topics with me.
It was an absolute pleasure talking with him, as we spoke about the inspiration for Drive, his views on the current state of electronic dance music, what he’s got coming up next, his podcast, and much more.
You can check out the video above to hear what Gareth Emery had to say, and we apologize in advance for the poor lighting. The interview took place in a dark room in the club and there wasn’t much we could do to properly light it.
